Across Mid-Wilshire, from the Miracle Mile to Carthay Circle and Carthay Square, the city's Historic Preservation Overlay Zones are dominated by 1920s and 1930s Spanish Colonial Revival, with Tudor and other Period Revival homes mixed in. Those overlays exist to protect the street-facing character of the neighborhood. Our work happens entirely inside the house, behind the facade those districts care about.
Period homes here tend to share a few storage traits:
- Narrow reach-ins with a single rod and shelf, where double hanging and built-in drawers make far better use of the same footprint.
- Plaster walls and arched doorways with openings that are rarely a standard size, which is why everything is measured on site.
- A garage that became the storage unit, which garage cabinets can bring back under control.
Newer Los Angeles homes and condos have their own puzzle: walk-ins that look generous on the floor plan but lose half their potential to a single row of hanging. A good design puts drawers, shoe storage and double hanging where you will actually reach for them.
