1920s neighborhoods such as Silver Lake and Los Feliz grew up during the Spanish Colonial Revival boom; Silver Lake alone holds dozens of the city's remaining bungalow courts, most built between 1923 and 1927. Garages from that era tend to be small and often detached, so cabinets are planned around tight clearances and older walls.
Postwar homes across the city usually have an attached two-car garage, with room for a full cabinet wall, overhead storage and a workbench.
Garages headed for ADU conversion are a distinctly Los Angeles situation. The city's ADU program recognizes garage conversions, and under state law a converted garage does not require replacement parking. If your garage is about to become a rental or a studio, its contents need a new home, and the closets and spare rooms in the main house will have to absorb them. Our designers can plan those spaces too.
