1920s bungalows. Neighborhoods like Silver Lake and Los Feliz grew up during the Spanish Colonial Revival era, and many of their single-family homes are two-bedroom bungalows. When one of those bedrooms is also the office, a wall bed keeps the desk in place full-time.
Bungalow courts. Silver Lake alone has dozens of the roughly 350 bungalow courts left in the city, most built between 1923 and 1927. Units of that size reward furniture that knows how to disappear.
Backyard ADUs and converted garages. With the City of Los Angeles running a dedicated ADU program, plenty of garages and backyard units are becoming studios, offices and rentals. A Murphy bed lets a compact backyard unit work as a workspace by day and sleep a guest at night.
