Custom Closets & Organizers in Newport Beach, CA

Newport Beach traces its name to 1870, when Captain Samuel Dunnells brought the steamer Vaquero across the bar and, by some accounts, declared he had found a new port. The McFadden brothers bought the landing in 1875 and finished their wharf in 1888 where Newport Pier stands today, the Red Cars arrived in 1905, and Newport Beach became a city in 1906. Balboa Island was dredged and built up between about 1905 and 1913, Corona del Mar was annexed in 1923, and the harbor was formally dedicated in 1936. Each of those pieces of the city was laid out at a different time and on a different scale, and the houses show it.

Newport Beach homes and what they mean for storage

  • Balboa Island: a grid of 30-by-85-foot lots, narrow streets and alleys, largely single-family homes with garages reached from the alley. On lots this tight there is no spare room to add on, so each closet is fitted to the inch and the alley garage is lined with cabinets.
  • Corona del Mar's Flower Streets: about 2,200 original lots, typically 30 by 120 feet, where beach cottages filled in from the 1940s through the 1960s. Cottage closets are small, so drawers and double hang inside the existing opening take the place of extra furniture.
  • Lido Isle: about 800 homes, mostly Mediterranean Revival, on an island raised from the bay after 1923. Larger homes here suit dressing-room layouts, with full-length hanging, an island in the middle and open shelves for shoes and bags.
  • Eastbluff and Harbor View Hills: planned neighbourhoods that opened in 1963 and 1971, with single-family homes now on their second or third generation of owners. Replacing the original closet fittings with an adjustable system modernizes them with no change to the walls.

Some Newport Beach homes are lived in part of the year and rented out the rest, and the city counts thousands of homes held for seasonal use. A lockable owner's closet, with its own drawers and hanging space, keeps personal things separate when guests are staying.
