Custom Closets & Organizers in Inglewood, CA

Inglewood's story starts at the Centinela Adobe, raised by Ygnacio Machado in 1834 on the rancho fed by Centinela Springs. Daniel Freeman leased the ranch in 1873, bought it in 1885 and named it after his birthplace in Ontario; the Centinela-Inglewood Land Company laid out the townsite in 1887 and 1888, and a poultry colony took up much of North Inglewood from 1905. The city incorporated in 1908. Ten neighbourhoods are marked by their own symbols on the street signs, among them Morningside Park, Fairview Heights, Century Heights and Inglewood Knolls, and over 50 percent of the city's housing predates 1960. Those older floor plans set the terms for every closet project here.

Inglewood homes and what they mean for storage

  • Morningside Park: Spanish-style stucco homes whose original closet doors and trim are often worth keeping. The system is fitted inside the existing opening, with double hang and drawers behind the doors that are already there.
  • Inglewood Knolls: a tract of homes built in 1953 and 1954, with the long, shallow reach-ins typical of the period. Running shelving the full width and adding a drawer column at one end puts the whole length to use.
  • Prewar homes: nearly one in five Inglewood houses dates from before 1940, and these have some of the tightest closets in town. Measured fit-outs with narrow drawers and stacked rods recover space that a single rod wastes.
  • Apartments and condos: about four in ten homes are in buildings of five or more units, where a reach-in may be the only storage in the bedroom. Fitting it with shelves to the ceiling and shoe storage on the floor frees up the room.

Most Inglewood houses were built when the front hall closet was meant for a few coats. Today it has to hold shoes, bags, umbrellas and sports gear too, and hooks, low shoe shelves and a cubby for bags turn it into a working entry closet.
