The region's homes span the better part of a century, and so do its garages:
- Land Park and East Sacramento: established neighborhoods, including Land Park's College Tract begun in 1927 and East Sac's Fabulous Forties, where the house and garage were built for another era and storage has to work around what's already there.
- South and North Natomas: mid-century streets in the south and, in the north, one of the city's largest inventories of newer homes in master-planned communities, where roomy garages often arrive bare.
- Elk Grove and Folsom: newer suburban homes where garages hold bikes, sports equipment and camping gear alongside the cars.
Whatever the era, the plan follows the same logic: cabinets with doors to hide clutter, a workbench where you'll actually use it, and a layout measured so car doors still swing open.
