Custom Closets & Organizers in Costa Mesa, CA

Costa Mesa's history reaches back to the Estancia adobe, raised in the early 1820s on the bluffs above the Santa Ana River. In 1887 the town of Fairview went up at what is now Harbor Boulevard and Adams Avenue and faded within two years; a railroad siding called Harper took its place, and in 1906 some 1,700 acres to the east were divided into five-acre farms. In 1920 Harper was renamed Costa Mesa, meaning coastal tableland, and after a wartime training base closed in the 1940s, many who had trained there came back with their families. The city incorporated on June 29, 1953, and roughly seven in ten of its homes went up between 1950 and 1979.

Costa Mesa homes and what they mean for storage

  • Eastside: streets that began as those 1906 five-acre farms and were later filled with postwar houses, many since remodeled or rebuilt. Bedroom reach-ins from that era respond well to a full refit: double hang, drawers and shelves to the ceiling inside the existing opening.
  • Mesa Verde: a neighbourhood built in tandem with its country club, which opened in 1959, with most homes from the 1960s and 1970s. Closets in these houses have outlasted their original fittings, and an adjustable system gives them another few decades.
  • Small-lot homes: newer two-unit and small-lot homes built under the city's small-lot rules, where each home gets an attached two-car garage that must also hold the trash carts. Narrow-depth wall cabinets keep both cars and carts fitting with room to spare.

In many Costa Mesa homes part of the garage has become a home gym, sharing space with tools, bikes and storage. Wall-mounted racks for weights and mats, closed cabinets for everything else and a clear stretch of floor let the room work for both.
