Victorville began in 1885 as a railroad siding called Victor, named for Jacob Nash Victor, a California Southern Railroad official, as the line over Cajon Pass was finished; the town plan followed in 1886, and the post office renamed it Victorville in 1901. From 1926, Route 66 ran through Old Town along Seventh and D Streets, and the California Route 66 Museum still sits on D Street. The city incorporated in 1962 and in 1993 annexed the former air base, which now operates as a logistics airport.
