Custom Closets & Organizers in San Bernardino, CA

San Bernardino's name goes back to May 20, 1810, when Padre Francisco Dumetz named the valley for St. Bernardine of Siena on his feast day, and in 1819 Mission San Gabriel set up a rancho here. In 1851 Mormon colonists led by Amasa Lyman and Charles C. Rich bought Rancho San Bernardino and built a stockade where the county courthouse stands today; in 1853 they laid out a town one mile square in eight-acre blocks, modeled on Salt Lake City, and San Bernardino incorporated in 1854. Above it all, the Arrowhead on the foothills is California Historical Landmark No. 977, and the Mission Revival Santa Fe Depot opened in 1918. From the old grid to the foothill neighbourhoods, the housing spans more than a century.

San Bernardino homes and what they mean for storage

  • North of Highland Avenue: tracts built in the 1920s north of Highland and along Valencia Avenue, part of the roughly one in six city homes built before 1950. Closets in these houses are small, so a fitted system with drawers, a second rod and shelving carried to the top makes the most of each one.
  • Del Rosa and North Central: neighbourhoods filled with large housing tracts after the Second World War; Del Rosa voted to join the city in the 1950s. Closets from those decades benefit from a full refit rather than another shelf.
  • Verdemont and the northern foothills: neighbourhoods set on hilly ground at roughly 1,900 to 2,500 feet, with sloped lots and garages that follow the grade. Cabinets and shelving built to the measured walls suit garages with few square corners.

Many San Bernardino households set aside a corner or a spare room for a hobby, from sewing and crafts to model building. A wall of cabinets with adjustable shelves, a fold-down work surface and labeled bins keeps supplies sorted and the project ready to pick up again.
