Custom Closets & Organizers in Pomona, CA

The land under Pomona was Rancho San José, granted in 1837 to Ygnacio Palomares and Ricardo Vejar, and the Palomares family's 13-room adobe from the early 1850s is now a museum. In 1875 the young town was named for Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and orchards, after Solomon Gates won a naming contest; the railroad came through in the 1870s and Pomona became a city on January 6, 1888. Citrus and olive groves replaced vineyards in the 1890s, and by the 1920s Pomona was known as the Queen of the Citrus Belt, the same decade the county fair began here in 1922. Today the city has five historic districts, and roughly 45 percent of local housing predates 1960.

Pomona homes and what they mean for storage

  • Lincoln Park: Pomona's first and largest residential historic district, designated in 1998 with about 800 properties, from Victorian and early Craftsman homes near Holt Avenue to later Craftsman and revival styles farther north. Their bedroom closets are tight, and a custom insert with a drawer bank and an upper rod makes each one count.
  • Wilton Heights and Hacienda Park: historic districts of 534 and 272 properties, designated in 1999 and 2003, spanning homes from the late 1800s to the postwar years. With so many eras represented, no two closets match, and each plan starts with careful measuring.
  • Phillips Ranch: a master-planned community first developed in 1965. Homes there date from 1965 onward, many closets still have their first fittings, and adjustable components give them a fresh start.

Belts, ties, scarves, watches and jewelry tend to end up scattered across dressers in many Pomona homes. Shallow drawers with divided inserts, a valet rod for tomorrow's outfit and hooks for belts and bags give the small things a home inside the closet.
