Custom Closets & Organizers in Moraga, CA

Moraga is named for Joaquín Moraga, who with his cousin Juan Bernal received Rancho Laguna de los Palos Colorados in 1841. After 1912 James Irvine's Moraga Company farmed the valley on a large scale, planting Bartlett pears around 1913 and running the red-and-white Moraga Ranch buildings on School Street from 1914. Donald Rheem's family bought Hacienda de las Flores in 1934, and Rheem Highlands, his first subdivision, opened in 1949, with 13 more following between 1955 and 1961. Moraga Town, Rheem and Rheem Valley incorporated together on November 13, 1974. Two in three Moraga residences are single-family detached, about 15 percent are townhomes, and more than 70 percent were built between 1960 and 1979.

Moraga homes and what they mean for storage

• Rheem Valley: the area along Rheem Boulevard where Rheem Highlands opened in 1949 and a run of subdivisions followed through 1961. The original bi-fold or sliding-door reach-ins from those years open fully to a new layout of drawers, adjustable shelving and two-level hanging, fitted without moving a wall.
• Moraga Country Club: developed in 1974 around a golf course, just before the town incorporated. Closets here are now about 50 years old, and a full refit with adjustable shelves and new hanging replaces fixed builder shelving with storage that can change later.
• Sanders Ranch: a gated community approved in 1981 and built from 1983, mixing semi-custom single-family homes with smaller-lot patio homes. Patio homes trade yard and garage space for easy upkeep, so a garage wall of cabinets topped by an overhead rack does a lot of the storing.

Moraga's country club was built around its golf course, and clubs, shoes and range bags deserve their own spot. An upright slot in the garage for the golf bag, a ledge for golf shoes and a drawer for balls, gloves and tees keep a round's worth of gear together and ready to load.
