Custom Closets & Organizers in Lancaster, CA

Lancaster grew up beside the Southern Pacific line that crossed the Antelope Valley in 1876, when the railroad built the first houses here for its own workers. M.L. Wicks platted the town in 1884, and in the early 1890s the first carload of alfalfa was shipped from here; the Western Hotel on Lancaster Boulevard, the city's oldest surviving building, is now a small museum and a state historical landmark. The city incorporated on November 22, 1977, and in 2010 its main street was rebuilt as The BLVD, with a shaded center walkway. Lancaster has always been a city of single-family homes, and about two-thirds of them were built in 1980 or later.

Lancaster homes and what they mean for storage

• Central Core: the area between Avenues H and J around the downtown boulevard, home to the city's older houses. Their modest closets gain a great deal from an internal drawer stack and an added upper rod.
• 1980s and 1990s tracts: the neighbourhoods behind much of the city's housing, mostly detached houses with garages attached. Many bedroom closets there keep the builder's first shelving, and an adjustable system brings them up to date in a day.
• Homes built since 2014: newer single-family houses, built under the city's 2014 rule requiring solar on new homes, often with larger primary walk-ins. A plan with long hanging, a center drawer bank and a shoe wall makes the most of the extra space.
• Rural residential lots: zones with lots of one acre and larger where keeping horses and livestock is permitted. Garage cabinets with doors separate feed and tack from household storage.

Lancaster households average above three people, and shoes pile up fast: work shoes, school shoes, sneakers and boots. A floor-to-ceiling shoe wall in the main closet, with angled shelves for everyday pairs and boxes overhead for the rest, gets them off the floor.
