The Right Way To Store Every Article Of Clothing

August 29, 2019 admin closet design

You don’t use the same laundering techniques for your silk blouse as you do your oldest pair of jeans. So, it’s only logical that you’d store these items in different ways. Whether you’re struggling to find items in your closet or simply running out of space, it might be time to give this part of the home a much-needed makeover. As a bonus, upgrading your clothing storage means protecting your favorite pieces so they last longer. Check out these closet design tips that will allow you to store every article of clothing in the best possible manner.

Shirts and Blouses
Tops likely make up a majority of your wardrobe, so you need to master the techniques for storing these pieces. When it comes to dress shirts and jackets, it’s best to hang them up using high-quality wooden or padded hangers. Use the same technique for dresses and nicer tops for nights on the town. By doing this, you will help protect your favorite tops for the long haul. On the other hand, more casual shirts can be folded and stowed in drawers or on shelves. Don’t waste space in your closet hanging up t-shirts, golf shirts, and workout clothes.

Pants and Jeans
While many people assume they can stuff pants in a drawer and forget about them, the truth is that not all bottoms are created equal. While it’s usually fine to fold jeans and stow them on a shelf, casual pants should be draped over a hanger to avoid wrinkling. For dress pants and suit bottoms, consider using a hanger with clips. As a bonus, hanging up your pants allows you to see everything at a glance so you don’t forget about a piece when you’re getting ready.

Shoes
Storing shoes in boxes might protect them from dust and debris, but it doesn’t help you get dressed in the morning. If you’re redoing your closet, consider installing shelves or cubbies so you can view all your footwear at a glance. Different storage options enable you to save space without sacrificing function. For example, angled shelves are best for heels and dress shoes, while slotted cubbies can keep ballet flats and flip flops secure.

Sweaters
While most tops should be hung up in your closet, this rule doesn’t apply to sweaters. Protect your nicer knits by folding these pieces and stowing them in drawers. If you need to hang up a sweater, be sure to fold it in half first and then drape it over a wooden hanger bar. Doing this prevents creases and protects the fabric from pulling.
