Bedroom Closet Feeling Cramped? Create More Room With These Tips

January 12, 2021 admin bedroom closet

Not all of us are lucky enough to have a TV show-worthy walk-in. If your bedroom closet isn’t quite big enough for the chaise lounge and vanity, fear not; you can still create an organized, spacious storage area that pleases the eye. At Closet World, we believe that a walk-in isn’t just a storage spot but an escape from the stresses of the day, and we go above and beyond to design tranquil, joy-filled closets for every home. Here are some of our top tips for creating more room in your walk-in closet without calling in a construction crew.

Clear Out the Old

It’s tough to organize your bedroom closet if this storage area is packed with possessions. For best results, clean out your closet before making any design changes. We recommend sorting through your clothes, designating piles for the thrift shop and the trash heap. Have a friend who’s the same size? You may want to put aside a few pieces for them to peruse. You should also relocate any items that don’t belong in the closet, such as kids’ school books and old holiday decor.

Install Shelving

Suffering from a lack of room in your walk-in? Consider putting the vertical space to better use. Installing shelving and extra clothing rods is a good way to organize your wardrobe while making it easier to see all items at a glance. For best results, utilize upper shelves for apparel you don’t wear as often, such as that ugly Christmas sweater or pair of skinny jeans you’re still waiting to fit into again.

Relocate Seasonal Items

If your walk-in is the size of a room, you might be able to store your entire wardrobe year-round. However, those of us with smaller bedroom closets have to move seasonal items when they aren’t in use. For example, it’s worth transferring tank tops and short shorts to another part of the house when the weather gets cold. You can also pick up some low plastic tubs to stow out-of-season clothes and shoes under the bed.

Optimize Shoe Storage

Speaking of shoes, fashion fiends often struggle with how best to stow these items. While cubbies are great for displaying favorite footwear, not all walk-ins are big enough to accommodate your entire shoe collection. If the wall and floor space are limited, think about using the back of the door. A plastic shoe organizer is ideal for storing narrow shoes like flip flops, slippers, and ballet flats.
